Let The Music Heal Your Soul

Do you want to live a life of more ease, happiness, balance and prosperity? Of course you do! Why is it so hard for some to move closer to these goals? The answer lies within.

Each one of us carries deep within us subconscious beliefs that contribute to our actions, and thus the actual conditions of our lives. If we believe at this level that we only deserve a certain amount of happiness, or that life is a struggle, or that we are unworthy of very much, then we act accordingly. As a therapist working with others and myself on changing the circumstances in our lives, I have come to the realization that it is imperative to modify our beliefs. And, as a musician, I have found that music can be the tool to heal your soul, change these beliefs, and thus to change your life.

We all know music can be powerful, but can one song really change your life? Absolutely. Here’s the story of one of my most recent songs.

Music has been coming through me ever since I went through some life-changing events 20 years ago. This music was a gift for my healing and then I began to use it in my work as a therapist. I recently went through some more life challenges, including a car accident, the death of my father, and the death of my marriage.

When I wrote the song, “The Magnificent You,” I saw that this song had a power that went beyond some of my other songs. It has the ability to heal the wound of unworthiness that sits in our hearts. It has been helping people to change their thinking and their beliefs about themselves so that they can take the steps to reach their goals and dreams. One person said, “It’s my soul’s song. I long to hear it every day.”

A friend who is in the medical profession said she would like to put it on a prescription pad and give it to her patients. It is a song that is to be taken like one of your most life-enhancing supplements, daily and with the intention to move into your magnificence.

Music Creates New Software in Your Brain

Most of you are already on a path to realizing your wholeness and your dreams. You read books, take classes, listen to teleseminars, and you apply these principles to your life. Perhaps you wonder why you aren’t progressing faster. Here’s one reason: You don’t truly believe you can do it and that you deserve it. Those subconscious limiting beliefs are sabotaging you over and over.

Think of your thoughts, statements about yourself, and your beliefs about how the world works as the software that runs your life. Unfortunately, much of this software lies hidden within us and we don’t realize how we continually choose to keep running it and allow it to interfere with all our hard work and the steps we have been taking towards our goals.

Music Bypasses Your “Keep Things the Way They Are” Radar

Music has the ability to get past our intellectual radars, the ones that keep really good information from getting to our core, to that place that makes or breaks us. We all have beliefs and habitual patterns of response built up over the years, making it difficult to make lasting positive changes. No matter how hard we try! It isn’t enough to read about these things and to listen to the experts giving us tools to change our beliefs. We have to get past our cognitive ‘filters’ because they are the gatekeepers to our subconscious.

You Must Be Your Authority

Another problem is that too often we look to others to be our authorities, to help us find our way. It’s OK to go outside ourselves to gather information. Then it us up to each one of us to choose what information we will accept and to give ourselves the message that we are going to be changing, getting rid of what hasn’t worked, and trying some new things. We must put ourselves back in the position of authority so that our subconscious will accept the new beliefs. If we only listen to others telling us we can do something, or singing to us about our magnificence, we are still making others the authority. Each of us is in charge of our own growth. Rather than listen to someone else tell you what to believe, activate your own passkey to your subconscious.

Music can be your passkey. Take this song (you will see at the end of this article a link that will take you to this free song) and sing it (after you’ve heard it a few times) several times a day to yourself. Sing along with the CD in your car, and try to listen and sing early in the morning, or right before bed, when your subconscious mind is more receptive.

Music provides the focus that is often the missing ingredient in people’s path to their goals. It’s easy to let everyday errands, unexpected events and work and family priorities shift focus. It’s not that the intention is no longer there; it’s that we allow other things to ‘take over’ and we can let days, weeks and months slip by without completing the steps that lead us closer to our dreams.

Music Gets “Stuck” in Your Head and Provides a Positive Focus

Music provides the reminder, in a gentle and persuasive way, that our dreams matter, and that we are worthy of having and pursuing our dreams. This particular song stands strong in that very way. If someone likes the song, they are likely to play it often, and they are more likely to stay focused on those steps on their journey to a rich, purposeful and joy-filled life. Also, we all have had the experience of singing a song over and over in our heads–whether we wanted to or not! This feature of music makes it a natural tool for creating new thought patterns that support your desire to change.

Through repetition of this song, you can form a new pathway in your brain that tells you how magnificent you are and that you can step into your power now. The more you sing it, the more you will form a new habitual pathway that tells you what you really want to hear. It has been proven that what we tell ourselves through positive and negative self-talk has a profound impact on our behavior and what we attract to us.

Why Not Just Say Affirmations?

This musical passkey is better than saying affirmations. Why? It is because the vibrations of the actual music bring the message deeper into your being. It’s like a massage to your psyche. The musical vibration allows the place where the beliefs reside to be loosened, allowing space for the old to be uprooted and lifted out of place, and allows the new beliefs a place to take root. The repetition of the song will help to form a strong pathway to this newer, more positive belief.

Also, the subconscious mind absorbs this information better when you are more relaxed and the brain is in an “alpha” rather than “beta” state. The addition of the musical accompaniment to affirming messages helps to induce this receptivity, thereby increasing the likelihood of the positive messages gaining access to the place where the beliefs reside.

You Have the Choice to Change and Be the Best You Possible

Now is the time to own, to really own your personal power. Now is the time to discard feelings and deep-seated beliefs of unworthiness or of feeling you can only have and do so much. You are only as limited as you believe you are. Bring this song into your innermost self and hear, and then sing its power to transform you.

You won’t be disappointed. Do me a favor. Don’t listen to the song once. Listen at least three times when you are not distracted, when you can take a few deep breaths and open your heart and mind to the richness of it. Let yourself imagine its power to transform some area of your life that isn’t moving the way you’d like it to, an area or issue that feels ‘stuck.’

How to Make a Music Collection

One of my best possessions in life is my music. Owning a music collection is no doubt a beautiful thing. Having personal copies of your favorite blues, folk, music videos and emo songs is reassuring that you hold what you love.

But how do you go about making a personal music collection? It is quiet simple. The best way to go about it is to start early. Buying music is the best way to start your own collection. It is a good idea to always window shop before proceeding with a transaction as original music is a bit costly. It gives you the choice to own as much music as you would like. It affords you with the opportunity to own either blues, folk or indie music. The choice is yours.

Your local music store is a good place to buy music. Check it out from time to time to see what is new. Visit different shops when you have the time just to sample what is available. You might be lucky to get what you like at a very affordable price. When shopping for your collection, make sure that you are dealing with original or authentic music. Take care when the deal is too good, you could be getting fake music of your best music video, alternative or folk songs.

Aim to have what you absolutely love. There is no point of spending a fortune on what you are never going to listen to. The internet is one of the best places to buy music as well. Get what you like online by checking out hundreds of sites that sell music online. You only need to get the details of the album you need right and you are set. Confusing the name of the album or artist by even a letter might get you what you never intended to purchase. It is good to be careful when giving out these details.

Take your time to sample tones of music available for sale online. You might get something you really like. Sampling music from time to time is a good way of enriching your collection. It gives you the opportunity to get songs, music videos, emo or folk songs from other parts of the world that you might really love.

If you are the lucky type, you can own a music collection by inheritance. This is only cool if you share the same taste with the person giving it to you. You can get music as a present or gift which is one way of enhancing your collection as well. However, chances of acquiring your best blues, emo or indie songs in this way are simply astronomical.

Not everyone gets the privilege to buy music to make or add to their collection. All is not lost as you can download your favorite music videos, emo, folk or alternative songs at licensed sites on the internet. This is available at a small fee or no charge at all. However, make sure you do it legally to avoid getting in trouble.

Copyright Your Songs

Copyrighting your artistic works does not have to be as complicated as some people say it is. You already own the copyright to your works, but you need to collect proof in case anyone challenges you. This guide will show you how. First of all, which parts of your work are yours to copyright? Did a friend help you out with lyrics, or have you sampled part of someone else’s song? If so, that’s a not a problem, just make sure that you keep a note of this with your collection of proofs.

Next, you need to work out what pieces of proof you actually have in your possession. Do you have original computer files for each instrument or track? Do you have any handwritten notes for lyrics, or scratched-out, dirty and used scraps of sheet music? If you have any of these then great! You have a fantastic piece of evidence that shows the story of how your creative work developed. But all’s not lost if you only have the finished product. Even if you have the full story, how can you prove that you came up with the idea first? It might sound tricky, but it’s a problem that can be solved.

Let’s take the example of an MP3 file of your work. You have created this from your system of choice, be it Logic, Cubase or Garageband. Did you know that an MP3 file contains so-called metadata? This is information embedded in the file so that music players such as iTunes know what track name and artist to list when displaying the MP3 file. Well, there are lots of other metadata fields that you can edit, including one for who the copyright belongs to.

When you edit the copyright field, you must be as specific as possible. For example, my name is Thomas Buck, and there are a surprising number of people out there with the very same name as me. To fix this, I not only put my name in the copyright field, but also my physical address and email address. That way, the Thomas Buck in the copyright field is actually me.

Mother and Son Wedding Songs

A wedding ceremony is never complete without those special songs and dances. Different parts of a wedding are enhanced by the music playing in the background. Choosing a song for each of these parts can be challenging at first. Let’s discuss one of the most important wedding dances – the mother son dance – and how you can choose the perfect mother wedding song for you.

Mother Son Dance

This is a traditional dance shared by the mother of the groom and the groom himself. It is the groom’s way of showing his love and appreciation for everything his mother has done for him. Putting a little time and thought into the process will mean so much to her.

How to Choose the Perfect Song

There are numerous mother wedding songs you can choose from, which can be overwhelming. Below are helpful tips to follow when choosing the perfect song for this important dance:

  • Always plan ahead. Some people might think that choosing a song for this dance is easy that they often take this task for granted. When it is time to decide which song to play, they may realize that it is not so easy after all! For instance, you might choose a song without realizing that the tempo is too fast for comfortable dancing. Make your choice in advance.
  • Make a list. Start making a list of songs that will be suitable for a mother son dance. Feel free to include some popular songs. You can also ask your mother if there is a song she prefers. Show her your list and discuss things together.
  • Get ideas. If you are having difficulty finding the right song for this particular dance, ask your friends, family members and/or fiancee for help. Browse the internet for websites about mother wedding songs. Are you going to hire a wedding DJ or a band? You entertainer can also provide you with songs that are commonly used for parent dances.
  • Understand the message of the song. Although the songs you have on your list are about mothers and sons, it is still important to check the lyrics or message of the songs. Make sure it is appropriate for the relationship you have with your mother.
  • Practice. After you have already chosen a song, take some time to practice the dance steps with your mom. You might also consider dance lessons so you can both perfect the dance before the wedding.

The History & Evolution of Karaoke Songs

So karaoke songs are just like any other songs right? Well yes and no. They have the same tunes but they are not by the same artists. Karaoke music is never performed by the same artists that prepared it for the vocalists. That’s why you will notice a big difference in the same music being offered by different Karaoke disc jockeys. It all depends on which label they buy.

You can find almost every type of karaoke song that you could possibly want. It has become just as popular as our standard forms of cds, and DVDs. Again you will find that you probably will form certain preferences to the labels. You can find karaoke songs that will have the vocalist that you can sing along with, or just the background music or even both.

There are always favorite by the majorities. In 2007 it was “I will survive” Gloria Gaynor lyrics, second in the running is “I got you babe” cher lyrics, then the third is “Sweet Caroline” Neil Diamond lyrics. These are pretty interesting choices being as they are not heavy rock or pop, and they have been around for years. Last on a list of about 50 is “we built this city”.

Karaoke songs are gaining a lot of popularity among the Christian sector. it’s a wonderful way for a church soloist to practice his/her music. It provides great background music for choirs that haven’t a music system. Its even perfect for the church audience to sing along with.

These songs can also be beneficial for children to practice their speech with. More often than not children find it easier to sing then to talk, and by getting them to sing it may help them with their pronunciation.

In 2007 there was a general concessions of what was the worst songs. Starting at the bottom of the list. The 10th on this list was “Friends In Low Places” Lyrics by Garth Brooks. The general idea of this one was to get everyone listening to join in and sing with you. Fifth place was “Baby Got Back” by Sir Mixalot. Then finally the grand winner of the worst song for 2007 is awarded to “Love Shack” by B-52s.
So as one can see there are the same trends, and ups and downs in karaoke songs just like the regular songs.

Then there’s the most over done ones. Songs that everybody wants to do and feels most comfortable with. “Crazy” By Patsy Kline, is a well loved song. Probably that’s why this one is such a popular one. “Delta Dawn” by Tanya Tucker. This one is one that almost everyone has heard, and it often the first one that comes to mind when going over the charts to choose from.” Summer Nights” by John Travola and Olivia Newton John is dubbed as probably being one of the most popular duets every sung.

There are many factors that people consider when they are picking the song they want to sing at a Karaoke and often is not based on whether they have the voice for that song. Its usually based on, because they just like that song the best, it sounds like its going to be the easiest to sing, or they like the artist.

Music For an Informal Wedding

Wedding songs form an important part of creating the right atmosphere at your wedding. It is important to choose them carefully according to the style of your wedding and with an element of your own personal taste.

Choosing songs for an informal wedding opens up a huge range of choice; from traditional and classical to modern and contemporary, you can really choose anything you want. One thing you must consider is if your choices are appropriate to a wedding. For a civil ceremony you wedding music must not have any religious references and you may want to take a look at the lyrics for any songs you have chosen for particular elements of your day. Some songs which may seem appropriate actually turn out to be the opposite once you check out the lyrics!

What is important is that your choice of wedding songs creates the atmosphere you want. For an informal wedding you will want an atmosphere which is relaxed and which allows your guests to kick back and enjoy themselves. Lively music with a joyful melody is ideal just make sure it isn’t too loud or your guests will be competing with it to make themselves heard!

At certain points of the day you will want have some gentle background music playing, such as during the cocktail hour and wedding breakfast. You may look to hire a musician such as a harpist or string quartet for these times or choose a CD of instrumental covers. Just make sure if using a CD you have enough tracks on it to last the length of time required. A CD which stops abruptly half way through the wedding breakfast could plunge the room into silence and have your best man scurrying to turn it back on!

Don’t go for anything too wild or raucous as it could have the opposite effect to what you want! Keep it light and jovial and choose songs which your guests are likely to recognize. It is also a good idea to include songs that cover a broad range of genres and eras, in effect include something for everyone – young or old.

Live music is great for any kind of wedding and can range from a band to a soloist. Make sure that you get an advance preview of any live musician you want to hire and that you spend time with them to find out what type of music they prefer to play and if you can put together a list of songs to play at your wedding.

Protect Your Songs

Many songwriters wonder if it’s really that big a deal to worry about getting songs stolen.

Why bother with copyright or song registration paperwork? My music is safe as soon as I write it down, right?

Well, yes and no.

True, actual copyright protection attaches as soon as original material is put into physical form. But…

You better be prepared to PROVE when your copyright protection started!

Songs get stolen more often than people might think. Cell phones make great secret audio recorders and if you are considering the Internet for your showcase… well you know how easy stealing things from there is!

And then there’s the more famous cases…

That’s what happened with George Harrison. His song “My Sweet Lord” was stolen from “She’s So Fine” (he admitted as much, though “by accident,” see below). Or Led Zeppelin’s lyrics on “Whole Lotta Love” coming from Willie Dixon’s “You Need Love.” Or “Dazed and Confused” taken from Jake Holmes.

And if it can happen to the biggies, it can happen to anyone…

In fact, we’ve included 2 links toward the end of this article listing songs that were actually stolen — one is a story about recently stolen material and the other is a study commissioned by UCLA about songs stolen between 2007 back to 1887!

And it’s not just evil people out there looking for songs to steal that’s the worry. It’s important to make sure your music is copyright protected for other reasons too. You may or may not have heard about songs getting stolen by accident.

Yes you heard right. Registering your song copyrights is super-important to protect against the chance that someone steals it whether they mean to or not.

If you think it’s impossible for someone to accidentally steal your song, just think how easy it is finding yourself humming a few bars of “something” without even remembering where you heard it (or whether you EVEN heard it or just made it up in your own mind).

New Song Music

The Quest for music the way you like it, or should I say I like it has often been an uneventful, and often times disappointing task. As I am sure a lot of you reading this right now would agree. Please allow me to define “music the way you like it”.

This applies to music which rejuvenates you, that allows you to see the brighter side of things or situations (That light at the end of the tunnel). This is the stuff that changes moods (from bad to good or vice verse), that may make an insurmountable task surmountable. Music is deeply Emotional, Music is Compassionate, and Music compliments our lives.

Have you ever found yourself tapping your hand or foot to an unfamiliar melody or beat, but then you realized that you were doing it and kept tapping just the same. During those rare occasions when we hear a piece of music that we like and have not heard before, and you wonder what the name is of that particular piece, and or the artist/artists name or album.

This can be a difficult task depending on the medium in which the New Song Music passed through your ear cavity. If it was the radio (airwaves, Internet or otherwise), in a passing car, restaurant, lounge, Gym, etc…Etc. There are so many ways you can luck up on good new music, or simply new music to you. Honestly if you have not heard it before it is new to you. Just like a new used car is new to you, you love it just the same.

Well…let us discuss this process, and also remove dumb luck from the equation. Honestly how often do you blindly stumble across great music you absolutely love, during your daily travels. Unless you live in a college dorm, or frequent clubs and happy hours daily (“ahhhh the good ole days”), most do not have that kind of time. Although there are some of us that have the luxury to work in the entertainment industry, or have jobs with great schedules which allot for a great deal of free time.

Unfortunately the rest of us have limited time and moderate or a great deal of responsibility. So finding new music may have to be a bit more deliberate, and premeditated in purpose. In other words an easy and convenient way to find New Song Music frequently!

As you are aware most of the New music you hear on main stream radio is less than appealing. Then those same unappealing songs are played repeatedly. If you happen to hear a song by an artist you do like, it gets played so many times that you lose interest. I often wonder with all this repeat business going on, how do new good artist even get introduced? I call this the radio loop.

So here are a few ways you can acquire good New Song Music. Music Blogs, Social Music Sites, and Music Portal Sites that identify similar artists by genre or category based on your current favorites.

Music Blogs…

Otherwise known as Mp3 blogs, that allow you to download new music. Once you have downloaded the track simply listen and give your opinion (your opinion is not required); the great thing about this medium is that it gives you access to safe music downloads for free. The artists featured usually are new unknown, lesser known, or underground.

Along with the music download a blog post will accompany the file giving you some background and bio information about the artist. In most cases you will be able to view how others have rated it, depending on how new it is. This can be a good indicator whether or not it is worth your time to even engage your ears.

The mp3 downloads are provided by record labels and promotion firms so that is why the music is legal and free for distribution. Most come from the artists promoting music themselves, so it is a great way to find some real musical treasures.

Some of the Music Blogs I like are One Track Mind, and The Hype Machine, so go check them out. Remember your opinion is strongly encouraged; this is how the sites are able to supply you with new music daily. So remember to vote/rate the songs you like and the ones you do not it only takes seconds. In an effort to give back when we can, here is an opportunity to do just that.

Social Music Sites…

These Musical Communities give the power to the listeners, the Incumbent Independent artist/artists submits there musical works to the communities for review. The listeners, in some cases soon to become fans recommend the music they like to others in the community. The advantage of this type of social circle is that you can see what other music listeners have liked at a glance. Thus adding to your own musical Internet jukebox.

My favorite Social Music sites are The Sixty One, and Our Stage.

Music Portal Sites…

The main focus for most of these Sites is to promote unsigned artists, and allow their music to be heard and fan a base to be acquired. The new music found here are often times unique and original, so listen closely. The premise is for listeners to invest in the artists they really like. Once the artist reaches their budget goal, they will be able to record an album professionally. This gives the artist the leverage to create their own deals with record labels, the way they want. Without the limitations that are put in place when advances for recording and marketing are made. This in turn allows the artist/artists to retain creative control, and maintain musical message with direction. Free from Record Label main stream constraints. In essence you get to hear new music songs before they go main stream, and before they top musical chart.
